The 2023 season of KVF Women's league is scheduled for 4 February serve off.
Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) women's league 2023 season is set to serve off next month, following the conclusion of the playoffs last week.
The top four teams have no time to rest as the first leg is scheduled for 4th and 5th February and unless changes are made that gives teams just two weeks to prepare for the new season.
Title hopefuls, Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) who finished fourth in the four-team playoffs with two points after forcing former champions Kenya Prisons and KCB to a five-set thrillers are looking to build on that performance in the new season.
"Lack of experience was our main undoing in the two matches that we came close to winning. However, that is something that will come with more matches. We have to build the players' confidence on the court too," offered head coach Daniel Bor.
The tactician further pinpointed the short preparation period the team had for part of their performance, arguing that they would have done much better with more training, a target he has for the new season.
"We did not have much time to prepare for the playoffs as the players had been in police training. That left us with little time to perfect on our skills, tactics and combinations.
I am, however, happy with how much we managed to achieve in such a short time. It goes to show that with more time the squad will be much better," he added.
Bor says tactically, the team has some work to do in reception as well as service. He also added endurance as one of the areas of concern.
"We trained on our services for three days prior to the playoffs and while it felt good to commit minimal errors in that department, there is work to be done.
We have to work on the effectiveness of our services by not making it simple for the opponent to receive. We have to find a way to bag those aces," he continued adding that good reception is also a must for the team.
However, top of the tactician’s mind is how soon he can get the players back to training fully recovered from the ardous task of the playoffs.
"I have had to give the players a week-long break. They need that rest as they had just come from police training and straight to preparations for the playoffs. Psychologically they are exhausted and need this break.
We expect them back in training next week. That leaves us with a week to prepare for the first leg of the new season. We are, however, hopeful the federation will consider giving the teams that were in action in the playoffs more time to recover," Bor explained.
