Only one women's premium league match is on the cards on Saturday.
Maurice Obilo's Zetech Sparks are in Mombasa this weekend where they face Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) women's league champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) at Makande Hall on Saturday 10 September.
The varsity side has had a fairytale season so far, winning all their matches but are now faced by an herculean task as they take on the holders who have also gone unbeaten so far.
Obilo's charges are a welcome challenge to Antony Ojukwu's KPA who have commenced their preparations for the FIBA Africa Zone Five club championship set for Dar es Salaam later this month.
"We got back to training this week after the break and the squad has not had time to prepare for the challenge we anticipate. Nonetheless, we have to honour this fixture and I believe the players will give their all.
All the players are available for selection, we have no injuries. The only thing that is likely to put us down is unfitness as we did not have enough time to get our rythm back," offered coach Obilo.
His opposite number, Ojukwu is only so happy to have some kind of competition that will force his charges yo get their house in order and give him a chance to see what he needs to improve on ahead of international duty.
"This is the kind of competition I have been yearning for. Zetech have proven to be a good side and I know they will push us. We are using this match as part of build up while we prepare for our title defense in Dar es Salaam," Ojukwu said.
Meanwhile, the men's premier league will have two matches played with holders KPA hosting Zetech Titans in Mombasa while Umoja host former champions Ulinzi Warriors at Nyayo.
Coach Sammy Kiki is hoping to continue his winning streak, having picked back-to-back wins away in Nairobi last weekend against Nairobi City Thunder and Equity Dumas.
On their part, the military side are looking to bounce back to winning ways after going down to Dumas in their last fixture in what was their second loss of the season.
Coach Bernard Mufutu, in his post match interview after the Dumas' defeat said that the team is still working on chemistry, having made several additions after losing some of their key players at the end of the last season.
