This year marks the gala’s second edition which has swiftly gained recognition as a breeding ground for young talent.
The high performers in the inaugural swimming competition held in Braeburn School - Arusha, was Kenyan team Umoja Sharks Swimming Club, which came second overall, amassing 550 points.
Organized by Future Stars Academy with the endorsement of Tanzania’s National Sports Council, the event will be held at Braeburn International School in Arusha.
It will run alongside the iconic Chipkizi Soccer Tournament, which has drawn top young football talent to Arusha for over a decade, making it a unique dual-sport event and a focal point for East African youth athletics.
Lead coordinator Mark Gaya expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming tournament saying: “The Chipkizi Cup is more than just a regional competition; it’s a launchpad for East Africa’s emerging swimming stars. We’re seeing young athletes who could one day compete on the world stage. This year, we’re excited to have scouts attending, giving these young talents a genuine chance to be discovered.”
The event will be overseen by the Tanzania Swimming Coaches Association, with certified officials from the Tanzania Swimming Federation ensuring that the tournament meets international standards.
The presence of scouts is anticipated to add a new dimension to the competition, offering young athletes the potential to catch the attention of talent spotters and open doors to further development on a national and international level.
The inclusion of the Chipkizi Cup in the region’s sporting calendar also reflects a growing investment in youth sports across East Africa.
