The county event will be preceded by the Kiambu County Minnows Swimming Championships set to take place on the weekend of 10 -11 June 2023 at Crawford International School
Alliance Girls High School - a key stakeholder in the Kenya Swimming Federation - Kiambu County will on 29 July host one of their special annual swimming events dubbed Bush Gala, as the county stamps out its motive to introduce and grow the sport in the region.
The partnership, which will be the first one sanctioned by the KSF Kiambu, will provide an opportunity to spot the most talented swimmers in the region, with the school administration extending its hand to marry their co-curricular activities with on-school activities.
“The gala will be used to spot talent in a bid to get the best swimmers in the region,” KSF- Kiambu Executive Committee member Joseph Ndung’u said of the gala’s intention. “The best three girls in the primary school category will get an opportunity to join Form 1 at Alliance Girls High School, as will the best three boys in the primary section to join the brother school Alliance.”
In addition, the best swimmers in the secondary school category will get a scholarship at Strathmore University to study either a diploma or a degree course that they will have qualified for.
As per the gala’s initial plans, over 40 schools hailing from the Mount Kenya region - Kiambu, Nyeri, Murang’a, Kajiado, Laikipia, Meru and Nakuru are expected to participate in the age-group championships that will be divided into; seven and under, 8-9, 10-11, 12-13, 14-15 and 16 years and above categories.
The gala will also play a role in incorporating the new Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) among the said schools, with the focus being on nurturing talents, enhancing critical thinking and problem solving.
As earlier reported by Mozzart Sport, the gala will be preceded by a number of high-profile KSF- Kiambu County events including; the Kiambu County Minnows Swimming Championships set to take place on the weekend of 10 -11 June 2023 at Crawford International School, and the Aberdare Swimming Championships that will be held on Saturday 27 May 2023.
