
Mavens Chess Academy dominate Private Schools Chess Championships

The Intellect tournament in Russia is an all-event that brings together top players from the world and is held every February
Students from Mavens Chess Club dominated the Private Schools Individual Championships held at Makini School on Saturday.
Jadarudo Achieng from Providence Academy won all her matches to clinch the cadet category with a perfect score of six points.
Andy Zane from Mirema School was runners-up also after collecting six points with Faraja Mumo from Citam School finishing third also with six points.
Mark Mwai from Sukari Presbyterian Junior School won the youth category after collecting six points.
Ryan Muhoro and Casey Adrian both from Makini School finished second and third respectively after collecting 5.5 points each.
The winners will represent the country in next year’s Intellect Academy tournament in Russia.
Ethan Kariuki from Makini School and a member of Mavens Chess Club finished in fourth place in the Youth category after picking five points.
Ruhan Shah also from Mavens and a student at Peponi School finished strongly as well in the Youth category with 4.5 points.
Players from Mavens Chess Club also did well in the Cadets category with Wanjiru Gichuga finishing in fourth place on five points.
Adriel Baraka, Myels Mwai, and Tumi Keli got four points each.
According to Tom Amwai, the Mavens Chess Club coach hard work, strategy, and brilliance are what helped their players to do well in the tournament.
“Each of our players has demonstrated not only exceptional chess skills but also resilience, focus, and sportsmanship. These qualities are what make Mavens Chess Club truly special. Let us continue to build on this success and aim for even greater heights in the future,” he said.

Kenya is taking part in this year’s tournament for the first time ever and they are the only team from Africa that was invited.
