The former Sony Sugar skipper was deployed at right back following the absence of Badi and Wepo.

KCB FC head coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno has lauded Thomas Harun’s versatility after the player comfortably filled the full-back right rank in their one-all draw against FC Talanta on Wednesday.

Zico had to turn to Harun, a natural defensive midfielder as the duo of Brian Wepo and Baraka Badi were sidelined with slight injuries.

Harun, who has not had the privilege of playing consecutively since his arrival at the club has proved to be a rare gem and an influential player to Zico.

Last season, the former Sony Sugar captain who is also a trained P1 teacher was slotted in as a centre back, partnering Nashon Alembi for the better part of the second leg after the department was hit hard by injuries.

He is not a natural full-back but he played well against Talanta. Two of my right-backs were out with knocks and were in pain on the eve of the match and thus, I had to play Harun there,” said the former Harambee Stars assistant coach.

While hailing Harun, Zico revealed that the two defenders are likely to be available for selection when they face Sofapaka this weekend. The Bankers will be hoping to arrest their win-less start in the season after going for opening three matches without a win.

I think in two to three days’ time one of the two will be fit enough to be selected,” he said.

Meanwhile, Wepo lamented that the thigh injury had knocked on his door at a time he was gearing to fight for his place in the starting team.

The former national U20 player has been Badi’s understudy since joining the club from Nzoia Sugar last year.

My pre-season preparations were good and I was certain of having a good season from the start. Unfortunately, I pulled my thigh muscle in training at a time when I was smelling regular playing time,” he rued.
