Although he has already been seen in Europe, striker Emanuel Chabula did not join Serbian side Vojvodina allegedly because of the influential man in Lusaka Diamonds' hierarchy
Emmanuel Chabula, 23-year-old Zambian striker playing for Lusaka Dynamos, was on the verge of signing a contract with Serbian top-tier side Vojvodina from the city of Novi Sad, but the deal is off.
According to Vojvodina's sports director Milan Kosanovic, they were very interested in Chabula. The player was delighted to move to Southeastern Europe too. Everything seemed to be just fine until the agreement was meant to be put on paper. One important person in Lusaka's boardroom, an influential general to be precise, canceled the whole deal.
"Vojvodina accepted all of Chabula's conditions, and the player himself was delighted because he would be in a good environment and was very eager to play in our red and white jersey. Unfortunately, a particular general from his club in Zambia intervened at the time, a man who asks questions and makes decisions there, " Kosanović told Serbian press yesterday and added:
"That general did not understand that the transition period expires and that is why the player must quickly sign the contract that we had sent him. Now the transfer period is over, to his (Chabula's) and our great disappointment".
However, the Serbian team hasn't given up on Chabula.
"We will continue to follow the Zambian games because in the summer, as things stand, we will try to finish the whole job so that he would come to our club. We were not allowed to complete his transfer now, but we should wait for a good football player, if necessary," concluded Kosanovic.
Chabula has collected 20 appearances for the national team and has scored ten goals, one of them coming against Kenya in a 2-1 defeat in a friendly played in Nairobi in October 2020.
