Odemba's charges are keen to continue their dominance, having won their maiden title unbeaten
Providence Mukalo, up against former employer Ulinzi Starlets scored once in the second half against Vihiga Queens in the opening weekend of the Women Premier League (WPL) season to guide her side to a 1-0 victory.
Mukalo got to the end of a Ruth Khasoha free kick, converting to hand the side their first win.
The Boniface Nyamunyamu-coached four-time champions lost the title last season to league debutants Kenya Police Bullets and were keen to reclaim the title by starting with a victory over three-time cup holders Ulinzi.
"We had a good pre-season but playing our first match against Ulinzi was a tough test. This win gives us confidence that we still have it in us to fight for the title.
As the season starts, we will look to play more attacking football as that was a point of concern last season. We created many unconverted chances and that cost us the league," offered Nyamunyamu.
The tactician believes new players led by former Bunyore Starlets' Susan Malda and Eglay Mukhwana who joined from Kayole Starlets will guide the team to the title should they gel with the rest of the squad.
Police 3-0 Kisped
Meanwhile, Kenya Police Bullets, the defending champions, opened their season with a commanding 3-0 victory over newly promoted Kisped Queens.
A brace by Rebecca Okwaro and a goal for Lydia 'Ozil' Akoth gave the Beldine Odemba-led side the victory.
