The four-time champions are likely to meet a slightly tinkered Ulinzi Starlets squad from the one they played last weekend
Vihiga Queens have already lost once this season to Ulinzi Starlets in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Women’s Super Cup that served as a curtain raiser to the 2023/24 Women Premier League (WPL) action.
As the two sides clash in the league opener away at the Moi Stadium, Kisumu, on Sunday 8 October from 2pm, head coach Boniface Nyamunyamu is confident history will not repeat itself and his charges will get a positive start in their title defense quest.
Not only has the side lost in the Super Cup clash, the champions lost to the military side at home last season, only to exact their revenge away. However, the tactician is hoping to have a better result against Joseph Wambua’s charges this time round.
“I have not changed anything. Instead, we have worked on minimizing the mistakes that saw us lose against Ulinzi last weekend in Nairobi. They are a good side so we expect a tough clash but the target is to have a positive start to our season,” Nyamunyamu offered.
The four-time champions are likely to meet a slightly tinkered squad from the one they played last weekend with reliable sources indicating that at least three players who were key for coach Mwanza then will not feature, having joined Recruits Training School (RTS).
However, the Vihiga tactician is not letting down his guard.
