Woeful Germany take on superstrong France in a friendly with lots at stake

Die Mannschaft lost the last three games, scoring just once, while France are yet to concede in 2023

Two teams in such a different mood. Two football greats meeting in a friendly with lots at stake. Two opposite philosophies. Just one match to settle the score and to make things even better/worse, depending on the side you support in the story.

Germany and France meet on Tuesday night in a friendly tie, which comes at a perfect moment for Les Bleus and devastating for Die Mannschaft. Germany sacked their head coach Hansi Flick on Sunday after a 4-1 home defeat against Japan the day before. Four-time World Cup winners are without a win in their last five matches and have lost their last three, scoring just once.

Their former player and coach, Rudi Voller, now acting as the director of the German national team, will lead Die Mannschaft from the dugout as the caretaker.

On the other hand, France continued their perfect start to the EURO 2024 qualifying on Thursday evening, with a 2-0 victory over Ireland.

Didier Deschamps' side are yet to concede a goal in 2023!

L'Equipe reports that Deschamps will make several changes to the team that beat Ireland 2-0 in Paris last Thursday. With France's opponents in disarray, Deschamps will take the chance to rotate his starting team in Dortmund.

PSG striker Randal Kolo Muani has recovered from a minor ankle sprain and is expected to make the XI alongside Kylian Mbappe and Kingsley Coman in attack. Meanwhile, the team Deschamps used in the last training saw William Saliba of Arsenal positioned at centre-back and Real Madrid's Eduardo Camavinga stationed at left-back as first-choice Theo Hernandez is struggling with a calf issue.

Youssouf Fofana and Aurelien Tchouameni made up a two-man midfield behind Antoine Griezmann, while Benjamin Pavard slotted in at right-back ahead of Jules Kounde. This would mean six changes from the Ireland game, with striker Olivier Giroud among them. The AC Milan man has already left the camp due to injury, but his club teammate Mike Maignan and Dayot Upamecano are expected to keep their places.
