Win, lose, win, lose, repeat - Spurs hammer Brighton to continue their remarkable run of inconsistency

Romero and Kane scored to inflict Brighton's sixth consecutive defeat

Being a Tottenham fan these days is like being on a see-saw. A win followed by a loss followed by a win... A seemingly endless run of inconsistency saw Spurs triumph on their trip to Sussex against a free-falling Brighton team. Christian Romero and captain Harry Kane scored in either half to bag three points for the London team.

Kane had a great chance to open the scoring early on, but he skewed his shot wide from a narrow angle after rounding Robert Sanchez.

It was a slow-burning match at the AMEX as the visitors searched for an opening that looked hard to find. But a lucky break towards the end of the first half gave Antonio Conte's men the edge. Son Heung-min squared nicely for Dejan Kulusevski to fire from the edge of the area, but his shot took a significant deflection off his teammate Christian Romero and totally wrong-footed Sanchez on its way to the net.

The Seagulls were desperate to halt their five-match losing run, but it was going to be hard to turn the game around with the team morale low and Conte's soldiers determined to mount a challenge for that much-desired fourth place in the table.

Another January signing Rodrigo Betancur played a delightful ball into the patch of Kane, who remained just onside and stabbed the ball low into the near corner to send the travelling fans into raptures. It was his 95th Premier League goal scored away - the most in the competition's history.

Brighton never looked like getting back into the game, leaving their manager Graham Potter to look for points elsewhere. As for Spurs, their see-saw continues to rock back and forth.
