Otieno joined Mathare before the start of last season.
Despite attracting interest from the trio of FC Talanta, AFC Leopards, and Sofapaka, right back Fidel Otieno elected to stay at Mathare United for an extra season.
The defender was hotly sought after by top-flight clubs following the good performance he put in at Mathare last season, but interestingly, he decided to stay put.
The player told Mozzart Sport that Mathare stood his ground in a positive way as the 2008 league winners doubled his salary.
The player was reported to be close to joining Talanta, but the talks collapsed after Mathare promised him a better package.
"Three top-flight clubs wanted my signature, but I decided to stay at Mathare for another season for the sake of my development. The team also offered to double my salary," said Otieno.
Otieno pledged to give his best and see the club get promoted after kissing the grass last season alongside the Vihiga Bullets.
The two teams finished in the red zone, with Wazito/Muhoroni Youth, who were above them, surviving the axe after beating Migori Youth 3-0 on aggregate in the promotion/relegation battle.
"The goal is to get Mathare back to where it belongs. We will give our best to see the team gain promotion at the end of the season," he added.
Previously, Otieno has played for Mombasa Elite and Rainbow, who are gearing up for life in the National Super League after winning the FKF Division One Zone A league.
