When you hope for a donation and almost get sued instead...

Croatian lower-league side copied Brighton's emblem and asked the Premier League club for a donation, but the Seagulls' response was far from expected, to say the least

The Croatian lower-league side NK Jadran-Galeb (literally translated as Adriatic-Seagull) was founded back in 2001 when Jadran from the village Kuzminec and Galeb from the village Koledinec merged into one club. At some point during their 23-year-long history, the Croats decided to "borrow" the English Brighton's emblem and use it as their own crest.

However, as if that was not enough, one of Jadran-Galeb's members contacted the Premier League side, asking for a symbolic donation in the form of equipment in recognition of the two clubs' similarities. Yet, the Seagulls' response was far from expected - to say the least - as the Englishmen requested the immediate change of the emblem, threatening to take legal action.

The crest has, of course, been changed, but perhaps the most interesting thing in the entire story is that neither of the two villages is located near the Adriatic Sea or has any seagulls. It is unknown who came up with completely illogical names or who proposed the copying of Brighton, but that idea could have dearly cost the Croatian minnows.
