When a player is more interesting than the match itself

Portugal beat Turkey 3-0 in the second group stage round of the EURO 2024 and secured the advancement to the eighth-finals. Cristiano Ronaldo showed outstanding selflessness by assisting Bruno Fernandes for the team's third goal. Still, he didn't score in his second match in the tournament either and, knowing him, that probably starts to bug him. However, another irritant appeared throughout and even after the game against Turkey - pitch invaders.

Football forensics and a man who got the short end of the stick

Although Ronaldo made no annoyed reaction, or at least we didn't spot them, it was clear that he didn't feel pleasant, especially knowing that all those people and even children (?!) entered the field because of him. CR7 is undoubtedly used to the immense popularity and fans all over the globe who want to touch him, come near him or take a selfie with him. Truth be said, he's now and then seen visitors invading the pitch as well. But five pitch invaders in a single match?! That's too much.

All those people just wanted to take a photo with Cristiano, but there are many "what ifs" regarding this situation. The most important one is that somebody could have hurt him. On Saturday, he was fine, but his teammate Gonçalo Ramos could have been seriously injured - not by a fan, but by a steward who tackled the PSG forward while chasing the fan!

Given that the stadium's security has failed and that players' safety has been compromised and jeopardized, UEFA undertook to increase security measures to prevent a similar situation from happening in the remaining part of EURO 2024.
