The loss no doubt dent's Bright Stars' confidence as they prepare for Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Two first half goals from Whyvonne Isuza and Micheal Owino were enough to do the damage as Wazito triumphed 2-1 over South Sudan in a friendly match played at the Kasarani Annex stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
Isuza scored the first goal of the game before providing the second goal to ensure Wazito walked away with the win.The tale of two affairs in the first and second half saw Wazito's dominance in the first half make a difference despite a spirited second half fight from South Sudan.
It is Wazito who had the upper hand in the opening exchanges of the game, threading neat passes on the Kasarani turf with idiosyncratic Kimanzi type of football; carpet ball. That domination would soon reflect on the scoreboard in the 10th minute when Isuza gave Francis Kimanzi's side the opening goal.
Boniface Omondi's intelligent run down the right hand channel was fed by a Ronney Onyango through pass. The diminutive winger who had acres of space squared a cut back to Isuza who took a composed touch in the box and did the rest.Wazito's increased tempo would again be rewarded with a second goal in the 21st minute when striker Owino finished off a Ng'ang'a cross into the box.
South Sudan had to wait until the 27th minute for their first sniff on goal. Stephen Lony attempted a shot from just outside the box that just went narrowly past the upright with goalkeeper Levis Opiyo just watching the ball helplessly.
Sudan's clearest chance came in the 37th minute from a corner. Gor Mahia man Tito Okello rose highest and connected cleanly with the floated corner but Isuza was on standby as he cleared the effort of the line to ensure Wazito's lead and clean sheet remained in tact going into the half time break.
South Sudan came on for the second half a completely different and rejuvenated side. Despite having increased possession and seeing most of the ball in the half, they were unable to fashion opportunities to trouble Opiyo who sat pretty in the Wazito goal.
Sudan's patient play and determination would pay off in the 79th minute when substitute Makueth Wol Akeen rose unchallenged to get on the end of an out-swinging corner kick.
Just three minutes to time Akeen almost restored parity in the game only to be denied by Opiyo's fingertip save that tapped it out for a corner. It was nervy in the end for Wazito but they managed to withstand that late storm from South Sudan and emerge 2-1 victors on the day.
