Gor Mahia forward Jules Ulimwengu denies fleeing the financially unstable club

Burundian import Jules Ulimwengu has poured cold water on reports indicating that he had unceremoniously cut ties with record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia.

Gor beat scores of suitors among them is their sworn rivals AFC Leopards to land the highly-rated forward before the start of the current campaign and subsequently handed him a two-year long contract.

The forward who joined from Rayon Sports of Rwanda has since netted five goals for K'Ogalo including one in a CAF Champions League was said to have capitalized on the March FIFA international week to flee the financially limping club.

Whispers within the club suggest that the disgruntled senior players and foreigners are on the verge of leaving owing to the delayed salaries.

Already Brazil forward Wilson Silva is understood to have flown back home while South Sudanese winger Tito Okello is alleged to have deserted the club hotel.

Ulimwengu, who was part of the Burundi national team which failed to qualify for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations finals set for next year in Cameroon after finishing third in pool E is yet to return to the country a development which has fueled more speculations on his future at the club.

However, in a telephone interview, the former Vital'O FC assured Gor Mahia faithfuls that he will return to the club once the Ministry of Sports okays the resumption of the league.

"I am still at home but I will endeavor to fly to Kenya immediately the government says it is safe for the league to resume. I am still a Gor Mahia player. I have read news indicating that I have parted ways with the club but may I assure the fans, teammates and the management that I am committed to serve the club, " he said.

The former Nyagatare player who remained tight lipped on whether he had attracted offers elsewhere pledged to remain in the Gor's books until the last day of his contract.

"I want to honor my contract with Gor until the last day," he added.
