Some of the fans allegedly shouted insults like “Scheiss Gala! (screw you, Galatasaray)” and even made racist remarks. At first, Sane chose to walk away, but when the verbal abuse persisted, he turned back to confront the group.
Witnesses say that a short scuffle ensued before security staff quickly stepped in to defuse the situation. No one was seriously hurt, and police were not called. Kristin da Silva, spokesperson for the Kupler Group that runs the festival, confirmed to Bild that “there was a minor security incident that evening in the gallery area. Security personnel intervened immediately and resolved it peacefully,” noting that “police involvement was not necessary.”
Speaking later to Bild, Sane gave his own account of what happened: “I endured personal insults and provocations for a long time at the festival. Even my team, Galatasaray, was criticized. In the heated atmosphere the other person pushed me, and in the process there was a brief scuffle.”
He went on to admit, “I should have responded more calmly in that moment. I will compose myself so that I can remain calm in such situations in the future.”

Sane, who left Bayern Munich before the 2025–26 season to join Turkish champions Galatasaray, remains a polarizing figure among some supporters in Munich. His unpleasant encounter at Oktoberfest has been viewed locally as a sour reminder of how quickly relationships between clubs and former stars can turn cold.
