Two Kenyan referees handed CECAFA duty

Mimisa and Yiembe are part of selected referees for CECAFA U23 Championship

Two Kenyan match officials will officiate in the CECAFA U23 Championship that gets underway on Sunday 18th July in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia.

Center referee Dickens Mimisa is among nine whistleblowers assigned for the tournament. He is joined by compatriot, Stephen Yiembe who is one of the selected assistant referees.

Ronald Madanda (Uganda), Yannick Malala Kabanga (Democratic Republic of Congo), Thiery Nkurunziza (Burundi), Saddam Houssein (Djibouti), Tsegay Mogos Teklu (Eritrea), Haileyasus Bezezu (Ethiopia), Dickens Mimisa Myangorwa (Kenya), Ring Malong (South Sudan) and Ramadhan Kayoko (Tanzania).

Assistant referees

Ronald Katenya (Uganda), Thiery Kakunze (Burundi), Rachid Wais (Djibouti), Micahel Gebru Eyobiel (Eritrea), Fasika Biru Yehualashet (Ethiopia), Stephen Yiembe Eliezah (Kenya), and Kassim Mpanga (Tanzania).

The two-week tournament brings together nine East African countries pooled into three groups. Rwanda will not be participating due to the Covid-19 situation in the country and the restrictions imposed by the government.

Kenya U23 team left the country on Wednesday morning for Bahir Dar where they will pitch camp as they ready themselves for the tournament. The team is coached by former Harambee Stars tactician Stanley Okumbi and he is aided by former Mathare United boss Salim Ali.They kick off their campaign against Djibouti on 19th July before taking on South Sudan on 22nd July.
