Two-face Napoli take Serie A top spot

Although Atalanta's eventual victory over Empoli (tomorrow, 20.00) would return La Dea to the leading position

Napoli presented their fans with a terrific first half and survived the terrible second for a 2-1 triumph in Genoa. Anguissa and Rrahmani made it 2-0 at the break, while Pinamonti netted a goal of hope for the home team. Still, despite their much better display, Genoa failed to score the leveller and avoid defeat.

Ever since the legendary French midfielder Patrick Vieira took over Genoa's bench, the Rossoblu have been undefeated and have not conceded in the last three games. However, the club from Stadio Luigi Ferraris could not solve a riddle called Napoli and their crosses and headers.

The Neapolitans were 2-0 up at the break, thanks to scoring two goals in the span of only eight minutes - 15th and 23rd. The Cameroonian Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa "opened the tab" using David Neres' ideal cross, while Amir Rrahmani netted a skilful header after Stanislav Lobotka's free-kick cross.

Still, the home team returned from the break with a different mindset and managed to reduce the gap over Andrea Pinamonti in the 51st minute. Antonio Conte's team had many problems with the Portuguese Vitinha, who continually attacked through the left flank.

Mario Balotelli even hit the post five minutes before the end, but Conte and his men were lucky enough to avoid punishment for their pretty cowardly approach after the break. This win launches Napoli to the Serie A top spot, although Atalanta will be able to retake the leading position tomorrow if La Dea beats Empoli at home.
