For years, Ter Stegen stayed in Neuer's shadow. Now that the former is severely injured, the 'old man' was asked if he would consider changing his mind
As you've probably read here at Mozzart Sport Kenya, Marc-Andre ter Stegen waited for 12 years to become Germany's No. 1, spending all that time as Manuel Neuer's reserve.
After Bayern Munich's keeper decided to retire from international football following the EURO 2024, Ter Stegen finally reached the starting XI. And then suffered a horrible, season-ending injury.
So, now, Die Mannschaft should definitely look for his replacement, and German journalist had an idea.
Why not Neuer again!?
The 38-year-old custodian made an incredible 124 appearances for the national side before retiring. When asked if he would consider changing his mind for the sake of nation, he said:
"I left on my own initiative."
As simple as that... As further reported by Kicker, they state that a return to the DFB is not an option for Neuer.
He believes that they are in good hands.
"We have at least two excellent goalkeepers," added Neuer. "We don't need to worry."
The third choice in Julian Nagelsmann's EURO 2024 side was Oliver Baumann, while Alexander Nubel was named in the preliminary squad.
