The Red Devils keep options open as Liverpool star becomes a shock transfer target

Manchester United are considering the unthinkable - a move for Alexis Mac Allister.

Old Trafford chiefs are drawing up their summer midfield shortlist, and among the names under serious consideration is Liverpool's World Cup-winning Argentine. Yes, that Mac Allister.

Speculation is growing that the 27-year-old could reassess his future after a frustrating season at Anfield. Under contract until 2028, he remains a key figure on paper, but his form has dipped, and uncertainty is beginning to swirl.

For United, the obstacle is obvious. This is not just a transfer. It's a declaration of war!

Since Phil Chisnall's move in 1964, no player has crossed directly between England's fiercest rivals. Peter Beardsley, Michael Owen and Paul Ince wore both shirts, but never via a straight swap across enemy lines.

Prising Mac Allister away would require more than money. It would likely require Champions League football. United know they cannot realistically compete for a midfielder of his stature without it.

Still, Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants every option explored. If there is even the slightest opening, United intend to be ready.

Mac Allister arrived from Brighton for £55m in 2023 and helped Liverpool lift the Premier League title last season. A World Cup winner with Argentina in 2022, he remains one of the most complete midfielders in Europe. United are also tracking Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleba and Elliot Anderson as part of their rebuild.

But one name stands above the rest. And if United truly move for him, it won't just shake the market. It will shake English football.
