Julian Brandt is about to leave Borussia Dortmund after seven long years and Niko Kovac had his say...

Borussia Dortmund coach Niko Kovac has commented on the news that Julian Brandt will leave the club at the end of the season after seven years. Speaking after the Bundesliga match against Koln this weekend, Kovac addressed the situation when asked directly about the midfielder he has frequently praised.

Brandt was in the starting XI for Dortmund's 2-1 away win and provided the assist for Maximilian Beier's match-winning goal.

Still, Kovac's reaction hinted that he may not be entirely comfortable with the club's decision.

"Lars [Ricken] summed it up," Kovac said at the press conference. "Everything happened exactly as he described. Both sides had constructive discussions and we reached a mutual decision that it was time to part ways."

"I truly wish my beloved 'Jule' all the very best," Kovac added. "He will still be with us for nine more matches, fighting for die Schwarzgelben. And of course we will keep following him, even when he is no longer wearing these colors."
