The ultimate insult! Porto can secure the title in the middle of enemy territory

Benfica host first-placed Porto in the Portuguese classic

There are many ways to annoy your rivals. There's the obvious way, by beating them. But there's an even colder one - by celebrating the league title on rival's ground.

FC Porto only need to stay unbeaten tonight at Estadio da Luz to lift the trophy under the noses of Benfica fans. It would be a slap in the face for the Eagles and a lovely way to mark the 176th "O Classico" game.

Sergio Conceicao's team needs just a point in two remaining league matches to take the crown off Sporting Clube de Portugal. The reigning champions still have theoretical chances of retaining the title but would require a total collapse of the blue and whites.

Benfica had a bad season by their high standards. Currently third in the standings, the Eagles have only pride to play for and stop Porto from throwing a champions party on their turf. They'll have to improve their head-to-head record against the visitors, having lost both encounters this season. Porto won twice at Estadio Dragao in December - 3-0 in the Portuguese Cup and 3-1 in the league a few days later.

It's been a while since the Eagles overcame their rivals, though. They failed to do so in their last eight clashes, with the most recent win being a 2-1 success in March 2019.

Benfica's Uruguayan hitman Darwin Nunez leads the league in scoring with 26 goals and will again be their most dangerous weapon. But whether he'll be still there next season to help Benfica win the title back that's a tough one to say. Many top clubs around Europe want Nunez so keeping him in Lisbon will be an arduous task.
