The most ridiculous excuse so far: Bruno blames referee for his terrible penalty miss?!

Apparently, the one who wasted the penalty by launching the ball into the stands isn't to blame, but the one who had pointed to the spot in the first place

Excuses... We hear a bunch of them almost every day. We often come up with some as well, and all that just to absolve ourselves of guilt and make ourselves feel better. Yes, excuses can only help ourselves, they don't fool anyone else.

However, even when trying to devise a perfect excuse for some mistake, we have to be realistic and not cross the line of absurdity.

When Man United drew 1-1 against Fulham yesterday, Bruno Fernandes was probably aware that most of the guilt lay with him. After all, he wasted a penalty that could have significantly changed things. We can't say that it would have with certainty, but it could have, and that's a good enough reason for the Portuguese to try getting off the hook with an excuse. Pretty weak one, though.

Namely, the Red Devils captain blamed none other but the referee Chris Kavanagh for his terrible penalty miss (?!), as the ref accidentally collided with the midfielder while he was preparing to start his run-up.

"I was upset. As a penalty-taker, you have your own routines, your own things that you do. It upset me because the referee didn't apologise. That is what triggered me in that moment, but that's not the excuse for missing the penalty."

"I had a very bad hit on the ball. I put my foot too under the ball and that's why it ended up going over the bar," Bruno stated after the game via ESPN.

And yes, he did say, "That's not the excuse for missing the penalty," but it sounded very much like one.

So, as odd as it may sound, apparently, the one who wasted the penalty by launching the ball into the stands isn't to blame, but the one who had pointed to the spot in the first place.
