Daniel Ek could become more popular than Freddie Ljungberg in North London – if he rids Arsenal fans of Stan Kroenke’s tight grip
The founder of Swedish streaming music site Spotify, Daniel Ek, has expressed interest in buying English football club Arsenal, as angry fans urged owner Stan Kroenke to sell over his role in the failed Super League plan.
Ek is worth an estimated $5.68 billion according to Forbes. His fortune built on the back of the music streaming service Spotify. Could he use a portion of the vast wealth to gain control of one of the biggest football clubs in the world? He certainly believes he could do it.
"As a kid growing up, I've cheered for Arsenal as long as I can remember. If Kroenke Sports Enterprises would like to sell Arsenal, I'd be happy to throw my hat in the ring."
The 38-year-old founded Spotify back in 2006 and it has grown to amass over 350 million subscribers.
Arsenal was one of six Premier League clubs that had signed up for the planned European Super League, which was met with a fierce backlash and withdrawn in a humiliating climbdown this week. Around 2,000 fans protested against Kroenke prior to Arsenal's Premier League match with Everton on Friday, with some signs depicting him as a vampire and devil.

Reacting to the news of Daniel Ek’s ambitions, Liverpool and Scotland legend Graeme Souness joked that Arsenal need an even wealthier owner.
"He has only got four billion. It’s not enough. People are talking about these absent owners will sell. They are under no pressure to sell. They are absent, they don’t turn up to games."
Ouch.
