World Football Governing body FIFA has confirmed the banning of renowned Swedish intermediary Patrick Mörk for one year.

The football agent was involved in the transfer of talented Nigerian youngster Akinkunmi Amoo to Swedish side Hammarby IF back in 2020, violating international regulations as the player was still underage by then.

Swedish Football Federation lawyer Christine Stridsberg confirmed to Fotboll Skanalen that Patrick’s ban kicked off in April and would be in force until 31st March 2023. He is not allowed to operate as an intermediary in any FIFA-connected country during this period.

According to the Swedish Football Federation Disciplinary Committee, Mörk was paid by Hammarby for the transfer of Akinkunmi Amoo before he turned 18-years old. Therefore, both the player and intermediary are judged to have violated the rule that compensation may not be paid to an agent linked to a minor player. In addition, the parties their agreement was incorrect and was not sent to the federation on time.

The club was fined SEK 350,000 (slightly over Ksh 4 Million) but it appealed the decision to the Swedish Sports Board and the hearing has been set up for later this month.

The intermediary initially wanted to appeal the decision too but backtracked, saying FIFA acted on the advice of the Swedish FA.

“I have zero confidence in football's internal legal system.” Mörk told Aftonbladet.

In addition, he claims that the federation attached more importance to information from "an unknown Nigerian club that is looking for money than one of their all-Swedish big clubs and the agent who has been active in Sweden the longest," Hammarby's Sports Director Jesper Jansson has also previously criticized the association for letting a "Nigerian source" play a role in the matter.

“This was expected. This goes automatically, FIFA only follows what they are told by the national federations but I can only say as I have said before - it is a joke.” He told Fotboll Skanalen.

Mörk has also remain defiant saying the ban won’t affect his football business as his colleagues and business partners will do the work during the duration of his ban.

Patrick Mörk has been actively involved in the transfers of many African players to Europe for a while. In Kenya, he was involved in the transfers of McDonald Mariga and Patrick Osiako to Sweden in the past and most recently Collins Sichenje, Henry Meja, Ovella Ochieng, Anthony Wambani amongst others.
