Makwata, Were overlooked in Zesco loss, Shikalo benched as Yanga is held

Harambee Stars shot stopper Ian Otieno was in goal as former Zambian champions Zesco United suffered a 1-0 loss to Power Dynamos at the Arthur Davies Stadium.

Otieno who was beaten by Godfrey Ngwenya's first half thunderbolt was the only Kenyan to be involved in the game as the duo of John Makwata and Jesse Were who also attached to the Ndola based club did not make it to the match day squad.

Despite the loss, Zesco who had fell by a similar scoreline to defending champions Nkana FC in a midweek clash staged at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium sit comfortably at the apex of the standings with 55 points, six ahead of second placed Zanaco.

Elsewhere, former national U23 midfielder and Stars trialist Teddy Osok warmed the bench as Kitwe United beat Kabwe Warriors home to former Gor Mahia left back Shafik Batambuze 2-1.

Josphat Kasusu found the back of the net twice for Kitwe while Kabwe got their consolation through Akakulubelwa Mwachiaba from the spot.

On Sunday, Stars attacking midfielder Duke Abuya will have an opportunity to face his compatriots Duncan Otieno and Musa Mohamed when Nkana hosts Lusaka Dynamos at the Nkana Stadium.

Meanwhile, Faruk Shikalo was named on the bench when Tanzanian giants Yanga battled Namungo to a barren draw.
