Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga scored a brace as he led Al Duhail to a 3-2 comeback victory over Al Rayyan in the Qatar Stars League on Thursday night.
Olunga maintained his brilliant start to the season as he led his side's resurgence after trailing for the better part of the game.
Al Duhail were losing 2-0 in the first half before Almoez Ali started the revival in the 59th minute following Róger Guedes's 5th and 41st-minute goals.
With 10 minutes left to the conclusion of the match, Olunga settled the scores for Christophe Galtier’s men before netting a winner in the 88th minute to hand the former Paris St Germain coach his second win in three league matches.
It is now seven goals in seven league games for the lanky Kenyan forward who has won back-to-back Golden Boot awards, after bagging 22 goals last term while claiming his first Qatar Stars League title.
Galtier will be depending on him this season as his side bid to retain their league title and push further in the Asian Champions League, where they have Cristiano Ronaldo and Sadio Mane’s Al-Nassr for company in their group, after reaching the semi-final in 2022-23.
In Armenia, Alwyn Tera was named in the starting team as Ararat Armenia got the better part of BMKA drubbing them 4-1 in an enticing Armenian Premier League match played at the Yerevan Football Academy Stadium on Thursday evening.
Ararat opened the scoring in the 20th minute through Tenton Yenne who converted from the spot to hand the Armenia giants a lead heading into the breather.
Guinean forward Mohammed Yattara continued with his fine scoring form as he doubled the host lead in the 51st minute before Brazilian Alemao netted a third, Artem Avanesyan completed the Ararat riot over BMKA in the 62nd minute and Grenik Petrosyan 71st minute goal-only acted as a consolation for BMKA.
Tera was withdrawn in the 64th minute with Armen Ambartsumyan taking his place.
Another Kenyan international Amos Nondi, who has become an established member of the starting lineup in a double pivot role in central midfield, was introduced in the 75th minute for Alemao.
The result now means Ararat are second in the league with 32 points, seven behind league leaders Pyunik after 15 league games.
