The popular Verdao beat the Ecuadorian side 4-0 in the return leg and overcame a three-goal deficit, scheduling another Brazilian Copa Libertadores final against Flamengo
South American football is definitely something different. It's the most passionate and the most ecstatic, but also brings the most heartbreaking defeats.
After the first leg of the Copa Libertadores semi-finals, the Ecuadorian LDU Quito were on the verge of their first final after 17 years, crushing the continental giants Palmeiras 3-0 at home. However, last night, everything went down the drain...
The popular Verdao showed their power and dominance, and at the same time, demonstrated to the minnows from the Ecuadorian capital how cruel football can be, dismantling them 4-0 at Allianz Parque in Sao Paulo and advancing to the trophy match.

LDU will have to wait for a new chance, though this one seems to be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity...
Palmeiras broke the deadlock after 20 minutes over the ex-Nottingham Forest man Ramon Sosa. When the defender Bruno Fuchs doubled the home crew's lead in the fifth minute of first-half added time, it was clear that the visitors were in for a "second half from hell."
In the end, Raphael Veiga turned out to be LDU's ultimate executioner, as the 30-year-old completed a brace, scoring in the 68th and 82nd (from the spot) minutes, dealing the final blow to the Ecuadorians.
In the Copa Libertadores final - scheduled for November 29 - Verdao will face their compatriots, Flamengo, which eliminated Argentinian Racing 1-0 on aggregate. It will be the replay of the 2021 trophy match and the fifth all-Brazilian final in the last six editions.
