Simba land in tricky CAF CC group, Mosimane to face former employer Sundowns in CAF CL

Pitso Mosimane and his record CAF Champions League champions Al Ahly have earned a fairytale clash against Mamelodi Sundowns while Tanzanian heavyweights Simba SC have landed a tricky CAF Confederation Cup group.

In a draw that was conducted by Mosimane himself, fate would have it that the serial winner draw himself to face his former side Mamelodi Sundowns as they were both drawn in Group A.

Also joining them in Group A are two Sudanese sides Al Hilal and Al-Merrikh SC who will be paired against Al Ahly for the second season in a row. 

Reigning CAF Confederation Cup champions and three-time Champions League winners Raja Casablanca will face Benni McCarthy’s Amazulu FC in Group B with Entente Sportive Sétifienne and Guinean side Horoya AC completing the group.

Group C will see four-time champions Esperance battle it out against fellow Tunisian side Étoile du Sahel, CR Belouizdad and Motswana side Jwaneng Galaxy F.C.

Reigning Egyptian champions Zamalek SC will face two-time Champions League winners Wydad Casablanca and two Angolan sides Atlético Petróleos de Luanda and Sagrada Esperança.

The reigning Tanzanian Premier League champions are paired alongside 2020 Confederation Cup champions, Ivory Coast champions ASEC Mimosas and Nigerian outfit US Gendarmerie.

Group A will see Egyptian moneybags Pyramids FC, CS Sfaxien who denied Tusker FC their maiden appearance in the competition, Zambian giants Zanaco and Lybian outfit Al Alhy Tripoli.

South African side Orlando Pirates will battle in Group B with Algerian side JS Saoura, Libyan outfit Al Ittihad SC while the final clash between JS Kabylie and Royal Leopards will decide who will join the three in Group B.

Two-time champions TP Mazembe are placed in Group C alongside Cameroonian side Cotonsport FC, Egyptian outfit Al Masry and AS Otoho d’Oyo who eliminated Gor Mahia in the Playoffs.
