"We are worried, this is the most bittersweet victory I have experienced in my life," said La Furia Roja coach Luis de la Fuente
Silence in La Furia Roja dressing room. No one was in the mood for talk and joy after officially qualifying for the continental competition. Spain's victory over Georgia (3-1) in the last qualifying match for the European Championship in Germany was overshadowed by a serious injury to Barcelona's young star Gavi.
He was injured in the 20th minute after a duel, remained lying on the ground and it was immediately obvious that he was seriously injured. With tears and a painful grimace, he left the field.
The results of the magnetic resonance imaging are still awaited, but it is probably a rupture of the knee ligament, so the season is most likely over for Gavi.
"We will wait for the tests results... But we are worried, this is the most bittersweet victory I have experienced in my life," Spain coach Luis de la Fuente said.

The injury to Gavi was a shock for the Spanish players. At halftime, there was silence in the dressing room, as if it was a funeral. Even then it was clear that the injury was serious. Fans at Estadio Zorilla in Valladolid were even more worried when Ferran Torres celebrated the goal by holding up Gavi's number 9 shirt.
"We leave with a bitter taste because of Gavi's injury. I send him encouragement and a lot of strength to recover as soon as possible. We don't know the extent of the injury, but knowing what a warrior Gavi is, it's probably something serious," said his Barcelona teammate Ferran.
The other players were also depressed. They had a hard time finding words.
"All we can do is pray," Gaia said.
Gavi left for Madrid immediately after the match, and arrived in Barcelona in the early hours of Monday morning for additional examinations, but it is clear that the champion of Spain will not be able to count on the young ace until the end of the season, and he will probably miss the EURO 2024 in Germany.
Gavi is only 19 years old. He received a lot of trust from Xavi and coach De la Fuente. He played 15 games for Barcelona this season and scored two goals with one assist. He has already collected 26 matches for the senior national team of Spain since 2021. He scored five goals, and previously he played for all the Spanish junior national teams.
Recovery from such injuries lasts from eight months to a year.
