AFC Leopards can rest easy after FIFA lifted the player transfer ban and further gave the club the greenlight to sign and register new players heading to the 2023-2024 Football Kenya Federation Premier League season.
Leopards had been serving a two-window long player transfer ban for defaulting on payments to former foreign players who, sued the twelve-time Kenyan Premier League champions.
Before the club could breath fresh air after clearing with the owed players, Belgian tactician Patrick Assumes sued them and subsequently, FIFA imposed another transfer ban on Leopards.
Aussems who has since left the den was demanding combined total of USD 145,000 (approximately Ksh. 20,568,250) on current exchange rates as outstanding remuneration and as compensation for breach of contract.
However, there is everything to smile for Leopards faithfuls after the club reached an agreement with Aussems to remit his dues within a specified time and consequently the ban stands lifted.
Mozzart Sport understands that concerted efforts from various stakeholders helped broker a deal between Leopards and Aussems.
“We are pleased to inform you after a series of constructive discussions between the club management and our former coach Patrick Aussems, the parties have reached an amicable resolution to the dispute. As a result, the player registration ban previously imposed on the club by FIFA has been lifted,” read a statement released by the club.
Last season, Leopards were unable to add fresh blood to the playing unit due to the ban.
The development means that the club will register the new arsenals and the technical bench will be able to field them in the new season.
Among the new players Ingwe managed to convince include: Boniface Munyendo,Hassan Beja, Humphrey Katasi, Yasin Sije, Randy Bakari and Vincent Mahiga who all played for Nzoia Sugar last season.
The highly-rated central defender Gideon Were joined the club from the 2008 league winners Mathare United.
The experienced duo of Kevin Kimani and Clifton Miheso have also joined the club.
