The league had taken a break for three weeks thanks to the Mozzart Bet Cup semis and the FIFA international break
The Football Kenya Federation Premier League resumes today after a three-week-long break with six matches on the cards.
With the title race over, the focus shifts to the relegation battle and in respect to this, league returnees Shabana will hope to capitalise on home advantage and edge AFC Leopards at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay.
Shabana are hanging dangerously above the red zone and head to the game knowing that anything short of a win will complicate their chances of surviving.
Currently occupying position 16 in the log with 29 points, three points will take the team to 32 points, a tally similar to that of Sofapaka who play Gor Mahia on Sunday at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos.
Shabana head coach Sammy 'Pamzo' Omollo in an earlier interview, with Mozzart Sport, said the team used the break to prepare for the remaining three matches of the campaign and most importantly, plot their survival
“Whenever there are no games and we have a break, we try to find new solutions for the problems we have been having,” said Pamzo.
Leopards on the other hand are at position 6 with 47 points. With the league already won by Gor Mahia and the team eliminated from the Mozzart Bet Cup, they are now aiming to finish the league on a high.
The two sides have met twice this season. The first leg league match at Ulinzi Sports Complex on 1st October 2023 ended in a one-all.
Brian Yakhama was on target for Ingwe with Peter Ogechi replying for Shabana.
Kayci Odhiambo’s goal in the 56th minute gave Leopards a win against Shabana in Round 16 of the Mozzart Bet Cup back in March.
In other matches set for Saturday, FC Talanta will visit Muhoroni Youth with both teams keen on gathering maximum points so as to retain their places in the top tier.
Tusker will take on Bandari at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, a game that will be preceded by the clash pitting Bidco United against Kariobangi Sharks.
Nairobi City Stars will host Kakamega Homeboyz at the Police Sacco Grounds.
The game will later pave the way for Mozzart Bet Cup finalists KCB who have a date with Posta Rangers.
