Schweini believes that the arrival of the Spanish coach to the Bavarian team back in 2013 negatively affected German football. Moreover, he thinks that the Bundesliga teams no longer frighten European rivals as they did in the past:
"When he (Pep Guardiola) arrived in the country, everyone thought that we had to play this type of football focused on quick passes, but in the end, we lost our values. I think that the other nations always considered us a fighting team that always ran to the end", claims Schweinsteiger, who retired in 2019.
"We've lost that virtue over the last seven or eight years because we just forgot about it. We were more focused on passing the ball beautifully," Schweinsteiger explained to Talksport.
