The skipper is out with a hip injury

Ulinzi Stars custodian James Saruni is expected to be available for selection in the next two weeks, the club has confirmed.

The skipper has been out of action with a hip injury, according to information by the club, and missed the opening duel against AFC Leopards as the Soldiers fell by two goals to nothing.

In his absence, Stephen Ochieng who joined the four-time Kenyan champions last season was handed the mantle in between the sticks, with rookie signing Sylvaine Omondi deputizing him on the bench.

The club has also confirmed that treacherous and speedy winger Stephen Etyang is set to be out for up to three weeks after sustaining an ankle sprain during a training session.

"Our Skipper James Saruni is recovering from a right hip soft tissue injury and is expected to be available in two weeks' time. Stephen Etyang sustained a right ankle sprain in one of the training sessions. He is in rehab for three weeks," the communique read.

To that effect, it means that Saruni could be available for the trip to Bukhungu Stadium in December when they take on Kakamega Homeboyz, or he could return in the match that follows pitting Sofapaka FC at home.

The earliest the former Kakamega Homeboyz winger can be available could be the home match to Batoto Ba Mungu, but that will depend on his progress in the three weeks rehabilitation period.
