Despite Real Madrid's interest, the Frenchman opted to remain faithful to Arsenal and pursue the Premier League title with them
Arsenal fans can let out a sigh of relief - William Saliba has officially extended his deal with the Gunners! The centre-back signed a new five-year contract, meaning he'll stay at Emirates Stadium until the end of the decade.
Saliba joined Arsenal in July 2019 from his boyhood club Saint-Etienne, and after spending the first three seasons on loans with Les Verts, Nice, and Marseille, he got a chance in North London. Over the years, he created a special bond with his defensive "partner in crime" Gabriel Magalhaes, as they are currently considered arguably the best centre-back tandem in the world.

Real Madrid were keen on bringing the Frenchman, but he decided to remain faithful to Arsenal and help the Gunners in pursuit of their first EPL title since 2004.
He's made 140 appearances for the North London side so far and scored seven goals. At the beginning of the current campaign, he picked up an ankle injury, but has recently returned to the team.
"We're so happy that William has committed his future to us to be part of what we're building here. In the last three seasons, William has become an incredible defender whose composure, intelligence and physical presence make him one of the best in the world," said Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta, speaking for the club's official website.
The Gunners' boss, Mikel Arteta, pointed out Saliba's professional behaviour and relationship with his teammates and the fans.
"William is loved by all the players and staff, and that speaks volumes about his character, commitment and attitude every day. Since joining us, William has grown so much, embraced responsibility, and has created a strong connection with our supporters and everyone at the club," the Spaniard said.
