Patrick Sibomana never trained ahead of his debut for Gor Mahia in their Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) new season opener against Sofapaka which ended in a 1-1 draw at Kasarani two weeks ago.
The Rwandan winger had landed the same day, and without hesitation, coach Johnathan McKinstry threw him into the thick of things - giving him a taste of action for thirty minutes as a second half substitute.
His impact was instantly felt as his pinpoint cross deep into the game was handled in the box resulting in a penalty that Benson Omala converted for the equalizing goal.
"He's a player I've known and worked with before. His quality is never in doubt, and I knew how he could slot in the team," McKinstry told Mozzart Sport after the game.
In his full debut against Ulinzi Stars on Saturday, the 26-year-old winger, who previously played for Clube Ferroviário da Beira of Mozambique, delivered the corner kick that Kevin Juma buried for the winning goal.
"It was a very tough match," said the former AS Kigali match, adding that "Kenyan football is very tough; clubs play very hard," he opened up.
For a foreigner, Sibomana, who wants to use the Gor Mahia platform to revive his career and get back to the national team fold, says that he is very grateful to his teammates for embracing him.
"In other countries, your teammates look at you as someone who is a threat to them; someone who has come to take their positions, but that has not been the case here, everybody is supporting me with an aim of helping the team to win," said Sibomana.
He singles out Boniface Omondi and Ugandan Rogers Mugisha as his close friends in the team so far.
Missing an opportunity to play in the African Champions League this season Sibomana says is a big motivation for them to work hard and win the league again this season.
Despite being crowned champions for a record 20th time last season, Gor were locked out of the biggest club competition in Africa for failing the Club Licensing test.
"Our aim is to win the title again this season and play in the Champions League next year," Sibomana said.
"Missing this season's campaign was a big setback, we have put all that behind us with the focus of making a return next year, "he added.
