Strasbourg boss fuels speculation after admitting uncertainty over his future
Liam Rosenior started the new year talking about football - but ended up talking about his future.
Strasbourg's head coach faced the media on Friday ahead of Saturday's Ligue 1 clash away at OGC Nice, yet the spotlight quickly shifted to Chelsea, where the Englishman has emerged as the leading candidate to replace Enzo Maresca.
The links are hardly coincidental. Strasbourg and Chelsea are both part of the BlueCo project, and Rosenior's spectacular rise in Alsace has not gone unnoticed in London.
"There is a lot of noise and gossip," Rosenior admitted. "But when a coach gets involved in that, he fails. My job is here. I love this club, but I can't guarantee anything."
At just 41 years old, Rosenior has become one of the most talked-about coaches in Europe. Appointed in 2024 to replace Patrick Vieira, he has delivered an outstanding first full season: Strasbourg are back in Europe and currently sit top of the Conference League standings, a remarkable achievement that has only fueled speculation about his next step.
Despite the growing rumours, Rosenior insists his squad remains focused.
"There's no need to talk to the players," he said. "There have been a few jokes, but we're fully concentrated on our work. The goal is to keep doing great things here."
Yet when it came to his long-term future, the Strasbourg boss left the door wide open.
"There are no guarantees in life," he repeated. "I can't promise how long I'll stay. I enjoy myself here every single day and I intend to keep doing so while I'm here."
Rosenior also avoided denying contact with Chelsea altogether, acknowledging the structural links between the two clubs under BlueCo - a silence that speaks loudly.
For now, his focus is on Nice. But in football, and especially in projects like BlueCo, tomorrow can change everything.
