Simiyu scored nine goals in last season's second leg

Ulinzi Stars scored a paltry 29 goals in the recently concluded Football Kenya Federation Premier League. To solve the goal shyness, the soldiers headhunted the promising Hillary Simiyu from Nzoia Sugar who managed nine goals in the second leg of the season.

Simiyu who was named as Nzoia's best scorer in the cllub's end of season awards had attracted interests from a couple of top flight clubs but ended up falling for Ulinzi who finished tenth on the log with 44 points.

The goal poacher launched his stay with the Nakuru based club with a brace in their 3-2 win in a friendly match against Nanyuki Combined FC played on Saturday.

Moments after the game, Simiyu revealed that he was seeking to be the solution to the blunt forward by netting more than twenty goals in the new season should he remain injury free.

The forward who arrived at Nzoia from Bungoma Superstars said the Ulinzi camp was conducive enough for him to polish his goal scoring instincts ahead of the start of the season.

"I have a dream of joining the class of players to have scored more than 20 goals in a season in the Kenyan league. I am working hard for it and I am certain that I will make it should the coach give me playing time and have an injury-free season," he said.

Having joined the former champions, Simiyu says he is happy to be added in their ranks and following the footsteps of the duo of Mark Bikokwa and MasitaMasuta who left the millers for the soldiers.

He vowed to put on the red and white robes with pride and give the best even as he seeks to guide them to reclaim their past glory.

" It feels good to play my first match for the club and score my first ever goal. It is a sign of god things to come. I want to do my best for the club and win titles here," he added.
