He served the club in a similar role in 2016 and was in the race to succeed Dan Shikanda only to bolt out in favour of Ambani

FKF Premier League club AFC Leopards have appointed Ronald Namai as the club’s Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for a period of six months.

Ingwe, in a statement on Friday 18 July, announced that Namai, who served in the same position back in 2016, would take over effective immediately.

Namai, who earlier this year expressed interest in the AFC Leopards chairmanship seat before stepping down for the incumbent Boniface Ambani, fills the void that was left upon Albert Wesonga’s departure in October.

“This appointment follows the recently concluded club elections and is part of our broader effort to ensure a smooth and stable transition as the new leadership settles in,” AFC Leopards Secretary General Isaac Mulindi noted on behalf of the club’s National Executive Committee.

“Mr. Namai has previously served in this capacity and brings with him valuable experience and institutional knowledge that will be vital during this transitional period.”

The appointment, as per close watchers, comes as no major surprise given Namai’s public backing of Ambani as the new club Chairman seat during the 29 June polls.

Namai, despite being AFC Leopards’ CEO for a short-stint during his previous time out, is credited for many achievements, including leading the review of the club’s Constitution to align with the Sports Act.

Namai, a man with vast corporate experience, is also lauded for helping lay the foundational work for key documentation that enabled AFC Leopards meet CAF and FKF licensing requirements, plus his role in the club’s rescue committee in 2018, that saved the team from near relegation.

He comes in at a time when Ambani and his National Executive Committee members are looking to transform the club back to its heady heights, with numerous calls for it to rebrand and go corporate.
