Real Madrid lucky to draw at tiny Getafe

Los Blancos were outplayed by a brave Getafe side as Atletico Madrid increased the lead to three points again
Real Madrid were made to work hard at their visit of Getafe in the south of Spanish capital. Even though they were given no chance for the clash with on of the world’s biggest clubs, Getafe played well and often made Real Madrid defend in numbers.
Eder Militao has done a great job to stop Getafe attacks. It’s not very often that Madrid’s best performer is a defender – at least not in matches against lesser opposition.

It was perhaps symbolic that a small club gave the title-chasing Real Madrid such a tough game on a night when most of Europe was talking about the idea of a Super-League, a breakaway competition created by the elite clubs, including Real, to get away from playing the so-called small clubs as a mean to increasing their revenues.
Thibaud Courtois was forced into making a fantastic save by Getafe’s attacker Jaime Mata midway through the second half as Real looked unable to dictate play and dominate the match the way they’ve been doing for the past couple of months.
Zinedine Zidane tried to rest his best striker Karim Benzema but was forced to send him on with three quarters of the match gone and the scoreline still reading 0-0.

It did precious little to help Los Blancos get the points they so desperately needed following Atletico’s impressive 5-0 win over Eibar earlier on Sunday. Getafe can be proud of the way they played against much-faniced opposition.
The result will be greeted with delight by Diego Simeone as his Atletico side now has a three-point lead at the top.
