Paul Jawa scored South Sudan's first goal at the AFCON U20 in February 2023
Rainbow FC forward Paul Jawa made his senior national team debut on Wednesday as South Sudan got eliminated from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers following their defeat to Gambia on Wednesday afternoon.
South Sudan fell 3-2 to the Gambia in the match played at the Suez Canal Stadium, Ismailia, Egypt.
The 18-year-old was introduced in the 79th minute for Christopher Atende Mawa at a time when South Sudan were trailing 2-1.
This was not the first time that the youngster was being named on the bench for South Sudan, having been an unused substitute in March this year as they beat Congo 2-1 in Brazzaville in the first leg.
His inclusion to the senior time then came after a decent showing at the AFCON U20 in February.
Jawa scored South Sudan's two goals at the competition as they went to march to the quarters where they were eventually eliminated by Gambia after a 5-0 hammering.
He netted against Congo and Central Africa Republic, coming off the bench to score the consolation against Congo and banging the only goal in the win over CAR.
