After the Wirtz deal, Liverpool has broken another record. The Swede is finally in red
It’s not over yet, because nothing is final until the contract is signed and the scarf photo is posted. But all reliable sources claim that Liverpool, after weeks of negotiations with Newcastle, have successfully arranged the arrival of 25-year-old Alexander Isak, who will thus become a Premier League record signing.
He will surpass Liverpool’s own fee of 125 milion euros (so far) for Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, meaning the Reds have brought in the two most expensive players in the history of English football this summer.
🚨 Liverpool have reached an agreement to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United.

The deal is worth £130million ($176m) to Newcastle due to solidarity payments and will cost Liverpool £125m.

That distinction previously belonged to Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez, who was bought from Benfica for 121 milion euros, although that total included certain bonuses. Both Wirtz and Isak could also “increase in price.”
Isak’s fee won’t rise much, as Liverpool will pay a fixed sum of 145 milion euros. When solidarity contributions and almost certain bonuses are included, the total reaches around 150 milion euros, according to all British media—this is the sum Newcastle will ultimately receive.
Liverpool’s summer spending now reaches a minimum of about half milion euros (excluding all bonuses). How laughable now sound the words of Jurgen Klopp, who just a few years ago complained that Liverpool couldn’t financially compete with their Premier League rivals at Anfield?

Negotiations with Newcastle even pushed Liverpool out of their comfort zone, as the Reds initially offered 127 milion euros plus bonuses at the beginning of August. Newcastle held firm, insisting on 170 milion euros, but when it became clear that Isak didn’t want to stay at St. James’ Park, they realized a compromise was necessary.
They also had to find a replacement, which they partially did by bringing in Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart for 85 milion euros. That won’t be the end, but more on that later.
Isak will sign a six-year contract. His salary hasn’t been disclosed yet, but with such a transfer fee, he will likely need to moderate his demands—though we are still talking about a player who scored 27 goals for the Magpies last season.
