Philemon opens up on why Gor Mahia have been inconsistent

Record league champions Gor Mahia have blown hot and cold this season and are out of the title race for the second season running with skipper Philemon Otieno blaming the inconsistencies on players ditching the club.

K’Ogalo currently trails log leaders Kakamega Homeboyz by 12 points with nine games remaining until the end of the season and need a miracle if they are to reclaim the title.

Philemon who assumed captain duties after Harun Shakava made the switch to Kenya Police FC pegged the patchy results on a weakened squad.

“I know we have not been consistent in winning like in previous seasons. Losing key players when the league is on was a big blow to the team but we must work hard.

We are pushing to be where we should be and fans' support can be significant in this quest,” said the former Ushuru FC player.

Gor Mahia lost Shakava in the January transfer window and saw a number of key players leave in the offseason transfer window including Kenneth Muguna, Charles Momanyi, Clifton Miheso and Abdul Karim.

Goals have been a problem for Gor Mahia as they have only found the back of the net 27 times which is equal to Nzoia Sugar who are battling relegation.
