Pep Guardiola 'owns' United, check the facts

City have amassed 145 more points than Manchester United under the Spanich coach

The title of this article may sound rude or even harsh, or as it was written by a Manchester City fan, but in reality, every Manchester United fan knows it‘s true. Since Pep Guardiola came to England in 2016 and took over the Citizens, the difference began to appear and it has been evident especially in recent years. Under his guidance, City have amassed 145 more points than Manchester United (649 to 504), winning 60 more games in the Premier League (205 to 145) and scoring 229 more goals (681 to 452)! Guardiola saw three different United managers at Old Trafford and beaten them all (Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Erik ten Hag). In fact, the only team which he defeated more times than United in away matches is Arsenal (8), led by his former assistant Mikel Arteta. Only Arsène Wenger (12) has won more Premier League games against Man Utd than the Man City boss (8).

And now onto to another bad statistics: since becoming the City manager, Guardiola won five of the last six titles and the treble last year. The four major trophies they've won since the start of last season is as many as Man Utd have managed since Sir Alex Ferguson retired 10 years ago. And the irony is, even the Spaniard cannot comprehend how is it that United are in such a bad shape.

"I know what we have done. I don't know what Man Utd have done because I am not here. But I didn't expect it, honestly, when I arrived here with Jose Mourinho in charge at United, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic up front for United, with top, top players, Romelu Lukaku signed in 2017" said the Spaniard.

Guardiola was not in the mood to talk about United too much, trying to avoid the further embarrassment, but rather chose to give an example of City‘s successs, and that is to have unity between the executives and the coach.

"I said many times, we are in the same direction, the chairman, the CEO, the sport director, the manager and the players. We go there. Wrong or right, it doesn't matter we go there. We make mistakes of course. First season we didn't win, I didn't feel my chairman complain, absolutely not. He supported me unconditionally. I remember when we lost the final of the Champions League to Chelsea we were devastated, I was. And the chairman said 'we are going to win it, sooner or later. What do we have to do next? Come on, let's go'. The club rely on me, the players know I rely on them. When that happens we are not incredibly over-excited when we win and we lose it's not dramatic. OK it's a football game what do we have to do to get better? That's why I think the club organisation is so stable" said Guardiola.

And Gary Neville read his statement and claimed that the Spaniard made a ‚monstrous dig into the running of United‘. Former Red Devil claims the culture at the club is poisonous.

"Erik ten Hag is a fantastic coach, we know that, we can't dispute that. Jose Mourinho is a fantastic coach, we can't dispute that. What we have to dispute is why they keep failing at this football club. Answer that question. It's not because of one player, or their ability. They can all take the responsibility, the medicine and say: 'I didn't achieve what I wanted to achieve'. But it's about cultural failure, and that's it" said Neville.
