The Frenchman joins last season's Champions League finalists

Benjamin Pavard's transfer to Inter Milan is about to be confirmed - and it's the most expensive deal in Italian football this year!

La Gazzetta dello Sport and Sky Sport report that the French international defender arrived in Milan on Tuesday, and his transfer is likely to be officially announced on Wednesday.

Inter Milan is anticipated to pay around $32.3 million for the 27-year-old defender, with the potential for the sum to increase to $40 million. The 2018 World Cup winner will sign a five-year contract with the Nerazzurri.

According to the Italian press, Inter had given Bayern an ultimatum, which expired at 15.00 on Tuesday, to accept or reject their offer. Pavard, whose contract with Bayern expires in June 2024, has spent seven years in Germany with Stuttgart and Bayern with whom he won four German league titles and the Champions League in 2020.

Inter, third in Serie A last season and finalists in the Champions League, have started the new campaign with two wins and are third in the table.

After Pavard's departure, Bayern will have a gap that needs to be filled quickly. Kyle Walker didn't come, Josip Stanisic is gone - and options for the right-back position at Bayern are getting few.

Pavard's contract with Bayern would have expired in less than 12 months. The Frenchman had decided against the contract extension despite the club officials' wishes. Most recently, Konrad Laimer had to help out at right-back due to a lack of alternatives. Nominally, Noussair Mazraoui is currently unrivalled there.
