Paul Jawa ends Kariobangi Sharks' misery in win over Posta

Kariobangi Sharks ended their seven-game winless run with a priceless 1-0 victory over hapless Posta Rangers on Sunday 8 December at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos.

Sharks, who came into the contest without a win since seeing off Kakamega Homeboyz 1-0 on 30 September, took the lead in the 22nd minute through Paul Jawa, never to relinquish their advantage despite facing pressure late on.

Jawa, who moved to Sharks from defunct Rainbow, took advantage of a strange clearance by Posta that came off the bar to eventually collect the rebound and sweep it past Bixente Otieno.

The goal was also his first in the Premier League, and despite the youngster trudging off early, secured Sharks a fourth win that moved them to fifth in the standings.

Posta Rangers, on the other hand, extended their winless run to three matches and remain bottom of the log with 10 points from 11 matches.

Bernard Kawinzi’s side will feel their own chances to carve an equalizer but brilliant defending from Sharks, who resorted to dropping deep after Jawa’s opener, ended up carrying the day.

A clear chance for a leveler came with seven minutes left when Shami Kibwana drove through the Sharks backline, only for Timothy Ekhavi to slide in and clear.

Sharks on the counter appeared blunt however, with Humphrey Aroko and Stephen Mbulere all missing one-on-one opportunities to put the tie in the balance.

And despite numerous crosses - that either met the head of Ghai Panchol or that of Leonlevitt Otieno - Posta’s door couldn’t open.
