Pamzo terms first five matches at Shabana tough, remains optimistic of turnaround

Shabana head coach Sammy 'Pamzo' Omolo admits that his team has faced difficult opponents since he took over but is adamant that things will change for the better for the Glamour Boys, who are now in free-fall mode.

Saturday’s 1-0 loss to Kenya Police at the Police Sacco grounds was Shabana’s 12th of the season, and they remain second from bottom on the log with 12 matches left to save their season.

Only Nzoia (14) have lost more games than the league returnees.

Since he took over five matches ago, Pamzo has managed a win, a draw, and lost the other three games.

The Kisii-based side will have to start picking up wins as soon as possible if they are to retain their top-flight status.

In an interview, the 2011 KPL-winning coach admitted that the fixtures his side have faced in the last few weeks have been tough and played a part in the disappointing run.

“The truth is, since I came into the team, the fixtures have been super difficult because, look at it, I have played Police, Tusker, and City Stars, and the only match that was kind of favorable was the Nzoia one, which we won,” the ex-international said.

Pamzo is, however, not letting the bad run get into his team’s head. He adds that they will put all their efforts into turning the team’s fortunes around.

“But we are not going to cry. We will keep working hard, and eventually, the rewards will be gained,” Pamzo said.

Reflecting on the game against the police, Pamzo noted improvements in the overall display and rued the last-minute chance missed by Brian Michira with an empty net in front of home.

“We have lost three points, but generally, the boys played well, and in the last four minutes, we had a chance we did not capitalize on.

I was pleased with how we played, particularly in the second half, as we did not give the police breathing space, but you could tell there was a difference and gulf in experience levels that worked to the police’s advantage.”

Next for Shabana is a home match against Bandari in a fortnight.
