Osimhen's goal not enough, as Napoli lose again

Reading Time: 3min | Mon. 09.10.23. | 09:51

This time they were defeated at home by Fiorentina 3-1

Luciano Spalletti's Napoli seemed like a perfectly oiled machine and strolled to the Serie A title. Fiorentina, in the first season of the Italian Vincenzo was a team with baby teeth in the transition process whose results varied a lot. A year later, it seemed that Rudy Garcia was holding Spalletti's team back and that the Italiano's Fiorentina had real teeth and were capable of fighting for the top spot in Serie A. It's no wonder that Italiano was one of De Laurentiis' first wishes. when Spalletti left the club. Garcia came only later as a ‘forced’ solution. Italiano taught Garcia a lesson in the last game of Round 8, and Viola conquered Naples and passed Napoli on the Serie A table with a 3:1 victory. If it weren't for the setbacks against Lecce and Frosinone, Viola would now share first place with Milan...

Already in the seventh minute, we got proof that the Neapolitans were going to have a difficult evening. Martinez Quarta somehow found himself in front of Napoli's goal and hit the post, and the ball bounced off Brekalo, who shot through the legs of goalkeeper Meret almost from a blind spot.

After the early lead, Fiorentina kept the ball well and controlled the situation on the field. All the guests allowed Napoli to get a dangerous shot by Lobotka from a distance. And while waiting for the end of the half, a misunderstanding in the visitors' defence ended with Terracciano having to bring down Osimhen and make a penalty. The Nigerian seems to have cooled down after the recent "TikTok scandal" so he took responsibility and scored.

And the second half started in favour of the guests as Ikone shook the post. It was only after an hour that the Neapolitans created the first big chance, but this time Terracciano stopped Osimhen. Viola's response was extreme and cruel. Old master Bonaventura came in from behind and found himself alone in front of the home team's goal and then routinely scored for a new lead. We saw almost nothing from the great pressure of Napoli. This is not the same team from last season, although all the players are almost the same... Finally, in the 93rd minute, reserve Nico Gonzalez confirmed perhaps the biggest victory of Viola during the coaching tenure of Vincenzo Italiano. And got Rudi Garcia in trouble during the process.
