Forgotten City Stars left back confident of contract extension

Nairobi City Stars left back Wesley Onguso is optimistic of securing contract extension with the league returnees despite warming the bench for the better part of the season.

Onguso disclosed that he was in his final six months of his contract with the club which he joined in 2019 from Posta Rangers.

The journey man who has seen limited playing time from the time City Stars gained promotion to the top flight lifted the lid on his intentions to impress coach Alagic Sanjin in the remaining matches and procure a new deal against the odds.

The former Sofapaka left back conceded that a knee injury suffered in the pre-season coupled by stiff competition from the duo of Herit Mungai and Bolton Omwenga had confined him to a serial bench warmer.

However, Onguso says he opted for double training sessions after recovery to improve his fitness levels as he anticipates for an opportunity to impress the technical bench to present itself.

"I just need a chance to prove that I still have something to offer to the team. One game is enough for me to reclaim my number and win me a new deal. I have around four months remaining in my contract with City Stars and should the coach give me the chance, I will give him reasons to retain me," he said.

The 2017 CECAFA Senior Challenge winner with Harambee Stars has in the meantime expressed satisfaction with the performance of the team thus far.

The Kawangware based club reached the quarter finals of the Football Kenya Federation Cup and are currently placed ninth in the league table with 23 points.

" I am happy with the team's performance in the league and the far they made in the Cup. It shows that we are on the right track and will be in contention for titles in future," he added.
